LED Light Therapy has a pretty impressive pedigree. Originally developed by NASA as part of its experiments in growing plants in Space, it was found to also have benefits in the healing of wounds. This was taken up by the US Navy Seals and used on injured soldiers.
Unlike other types of light therapy LED light therapy contains no Ultra-Violet so it is safe on all skin types and skin colours.
LED Light Therapy has been shown to be effective in anti-ageing, healing and in the treatment of acne or oily skin.
As LED Light therapy is non-invasive I would particularly recommend it for teenage acne.
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED Light Therapy (as the name suggests) uses Light Emitting Diodes to bombard the skin with various wavelengths of light, particularly light from the red and blue ends of the visible light spectrum. It is entirely non-invasive and potential side effects are minimal.
Red LED Light therapy penetrates the outer 'dermis' layer of the skin and has shown to be effective in the promotion of collagen and tissue growth so is used for skin rejuvenation and healing.
Blue LED Light Therapy penetrates to the sebaceous glands of the skin and is therefore extremely effective in the treatment of oily skin and acne.
Treatments last for approximately 20 minutes and the highest benefits can be observed after 5-6 sessions on a weekly basis followed by maintenance treatments monthly or bi-monthly.
